WHY MAINSPRING
What makes the difference in how a watch is cared for.
Three things matter in watch care: who does the work, what they document, and whether they told you what to expect before they started.
Back to HomeAT A GLANCE
What Mainspring brings to every service.
Single-watchmaker handling
One person carries the watch from intake to return. Observations made early in the process are not lost when work changes hands — because they do not change hands.
Pre-agreed scope every time
Before any movement is opened, the proposed work and cost are set out clearly. Owners confirm what they want. Additions are discussed before they happen, not invoiced afterwards.
Written records for every service
What was found, what was done, what was measured. Provided to the owner at collection and retained at the studio. The record has value alongside the watch itself.
Objective timing measurement
Performance is measured on a six-position timing machine before and after regulation. The results are reported in plain numbers, not general impressions.
Pressure testing after case closure
Water resistance is verified with a calibrated instrument after reassembly, not assumed. In Bangkok's humidity, this is not a formality — it is a meaningful check.
Observation period before return
Serviced pieces run in the studio before collection. For complication work, this period is longer. A watch is returned when it is ready, not when it is convenient.
IN DEPTH
Each benefit explained.
Watchmaking experience that runs through complication work
Working on a chronograph or perpetual calendar movement is not simply a larger version of a standard service. The additional modules have their own tolerances and failure modes. At Mainspring, complication work is handled with a specific understanding of how those modules interact with the base calibre — not as a general repair task.
- Fifteen years of bench experience across Swiss and Japanese calibres
- Focused complication inspection before and during service
- Conservative approach to parts — originals retained where condition permits
A clear process ledger from intake to collection
Each service follows a documented sequence: initial evaluation, pre-work agreement, bench work, testing, observation, and return. Owners know where their watch sits in this process, and are contacted at each stage where a decision is needed.
- Six-stage process for every service engagement
- Owner contacted before any additional work proceeds
- No surprises at collection — everything discussed beforehand
Straightforward communication throughout
Enquiries are handled directly by the studio team. There is no automated triage, no shared inbox, and no third party between the owner and the person working on the watch. When something is found, you hear about it directly and in plain language.
- All enquiries answered by the studio directly
- Findings reported in plain language, not technical shorthand
- Photographs included with every Service Health Review
Pricing matched to defined scope
The three service tiers are priced at ฿3,800, ฿15,000, and ฿32,000. These are not estimates or starting points — they reflect the scope of work as described. If a service reveals something that changes the cost, that conversation happens before the invoice does.
- Published prices for each service tier
- No scope creep without owner agreement
- Service Health Review has no obligation to proceed
Measurable outcomes recorded and provided
Timing performance and water resistance are not described subjectively — they are measured and recorded. The written service record provides a baseline that has practical value: for resale, for insurance, or simply for knowing where the watch stands years from now.
- Six-position timing results documented per service
- Water resistance figure recorded after case reassembly
- Owner copy and studio archive retained

WHAT SETS US APART
The things we do that others tend not to.
Photographs with every evaluation
The Service Health Review produces a set of condition photographs alongside the written summary. Owners have a visual record of the watch's state at the time of assessment — useful to have before any work is agreed.
Postal arrangements for regional owners
Owners outside Bangkok can send watches via courier. We advise on packaging and safe transit before anything is sent, and handle return shipping with appropriate care. No studio visit required.
We say no when necessary
If a watch falls outside our scope — because the calibre is unfamiliar, parts are unavailable, or the work requires specialist tooling we do not have — we say so clearly and suggest where else it might go. We do not take on work to avoid disappointing an enquiry.
Extended run-in for complication work
After a Complication Care Project, the watch goes through an observation period beyond what a standard service requires. We want to see it performing well across varied conditions before it leaves the studio — not just immediately after regulation.
